SEDATION DENTISTRY

PDM_Sedation-Dentistry12Many people have a fear of going to the dentist because they had a bad experience during childhood or suffered a painful experience during adulthood. Some are simply afraid because of past discomfort, stories they have heard, or from stereotypes they have seen on television or in the movies. However, ignoring any type of pain or discomfort in the mouth because you are afraid to see a dentist will only make the problem worse.

Dr. Boyajian is an IV sedation dentist in Westchester, and he understands that visiting the dentist can cause fear and anxiety, but he is here to help! Whether you need a routine cleaning or extensive tooth restoration procedures, we offer sedation during dental procedures to ensure a more comfortable experience.

SEDATION DURING DENTAL PROCEDURES OFFERS A PATH FREE FROM FEAR!

Sedation during dental procedures is now used by many dentists to ensure patients have a relaxing and calm experience. There are several forms of sedation that can be administered in a variety of ways, including intravenous (IV) sedation, oral sedation, or nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”). These options give us more flexibility with the level of sedation — minimal, moderate, and deep — depending on how anxious the patient actually is before and during treatment.

We Can Relieve Your Fear!

ORAL SEDATION

Oral sedation during dental procedures helps to relieve anxiety without the use of needles or intravenous tubes. If you usually have trouble getting numb, oral sedation will help you feel sedated and relaxed.

INTRAVENOUS (IV) CONSCIOUS SEDATION

IV Conscious Sedation is an effective method for managing moderate to severe dental anxiety. We have found it to be a valuable tool for ensuring the patient is completely relaxed during his or her procedure. Before your procedure, drugs are administered intravenously. Since these go directly into the bloodstream, they are much more effective than those taken orally.

NITROUS OXIDE (N20)

Nitrous oxide has been a common method of sedation for dental procedures for decades, and is still used frequently today. With this method of sedation for dental procedures, you will be completely relaxed within minutes, and Dr. Boyajian can alter the depth of sedation, ensuring that you have a pain and fear-free experience. When the gas is stopped, you will return to normal within minutes. You will be able to drive yourself home and will not experience any side effects.

LOCAL ANESTHETIC

For some dental procedures, Dr. Boyajian will simply numb various parts of the mouth. In order to do this, he will inject medicine into your gum or inner cheek. This is a local anesthetic and we commonly use lidocaine as a numbing agent. In some cases, other numbing drugs may be combined with medications to make the numbing last longer.
