How Bioesthetic Dentistry Helps You
There are so many reports, complaints, misdiagnoses out there for/from people who do not have the slightest clue as to what is causing their headaches or jaw problems. Years of switching from doctor to doctor and medication to medication can really bog one down; it becomes his/her lifestyle, always taking medical tests and trying to find out what is going on with his/her body!
This should not be considered “normal”, especially when a solution to all of that jaw pain, neck pain, ear pain, damaged teeth, and uncomfortable, ineffective mouth movement can be easily achieved.
Bioesthetic dentistry is based on aligning the teeth to work in harmony with the Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) of the jaw to promote a naturally cooperative and functional chewing system. When your teeth are out of their places (which is often the case) — even slightly rearranged from growing up with a habit of grinding them, for example — minor adjustments are made in the mechanics of your chewing system, but major repercussions can ensue. Crookedness, wear and tear, unexplained pain and migraines, and discomfort are all symptoms of this problem.
However, bioesthetics is to the rescue. Treatment is usually easily carried out, realigning teeth and jaw joints to their proper positions, and allowing time for the muscles and tissues to strengthen and turn the correct movements into your habitual movements. Goodbye headaches, restricted/noisy jaw movement, and crooked, worn teeth; hello straight smile, comfortable chewing, and freedom!

Safe Mercury Removal
Most of the public has been told that the metal filling up their cavities is silver. Most American dentists either are not informed or choose to ignore the fact that a high amount of mercury is contained in amalgam, and continues to release mercury vapor even after the filling has hardened.
Mercury is one of the most toxic substances known to man, and the reality of how many people contain it in their mouths is even more frightening. Any disturbance, such as chewing, brushing, or even licking the fillings absentmindedly releases harmful amounts of Hg atoms that envelop themselves into the innermost tissues of your body, particularly the digestive system, the liver, the lungs, and the brain. Many people are allergic to mercury, and live with serious allergic reactions to the fillings in their mouths, hardly aware that the fillings themselves are the cause of their distress. Many diagnosed “diseases” or “disorders” were never healed, because the root problem was never identified or acknowledged.
It is vital that amalgam be removed from a patient’s mouth as soon as possible. We are a mercury-free practice, taking every safety measure possible to prevent the patient and the doctor from inhaling mercury vapor through amalgam filling removals. A mercury detoxification process is strongly recommended after amalgam has been removed from a patient. For one who has had amalgam fillings removed, we have many resources and guidelines about how to get started with this.

Using Ozone in Root Canal Therapy
When a cavity becomes too deep and is a threat to the important life-giving pulp and living tissues for your tooth, a root canal is required. A drill is sent down the infected path of the tooth to make room for some filling. Then the infection is cleansed, blocked off, and repaired to preserve the health of the tooth.
During root canal procedures, it is extremely important to rid the whole area of the infectious germs, and to prevent other bacteria and germs from invading while the treatment is in process. Ozone is a great assistance here, as it is an easy and harmless way to aid the success of the therapy.

IV Sedation Dentistry
Dr. Boyajian and his dental team are experts in IV Sedation Dentistry. Together, they help patients overcome their dental fears through Conscious Sedation Dentistry (IV Sedation Dentistry). IV sedation induces a state of deep relaxation and a feeling of not being bothered by what’s going on. The drugs used for IV sedation can produce either partial or full memory loss (amnesia) for the period of time when the drug first kicks in until it wears off. As a result, time will appear to pass very quickly and you will not recall much, or perhaps even nothing at all, of what happened. Dr. Boyajian will let you know how long the drugs will take to clear from your body. Until they are cleared, you will be asked to not drink alcohol, drive, or work machinery.
An IV sedation is administered by injection, either in the back of your hand or in your arm. The dose will depend on the amount of treatment needed and the length of time it will take to complete. The onset of action is very rapid, and the sedation drug dosage is safe and tailored to meet each patient’s individual needs. If you have a fear of injections, you will not be numbed until the IV sedation has fully kicked in. Dr. Boyajian will wait to begin any dental procedure until after the anesthetic has taken effect.
Dr. Boyajian and his staff are trained to recognize and notify applicable patients of all contraindications or health concerns.
Dr. Boyajian and his assistant have a Conscious Sedation Dentistry License from USC Dental School.

Holistic/Biocompatible Dentistry
An important philosophy saturates everything we do here at Dr. Boyajian’s office. The understanding that health for the whole body is crucial for the health of individual areas of the body has been lost through developing technology and modernization of our society. We believe wholeheartedly that the only way your mouth can truly be healthy and beautiful is if the rest of your body is nourished and well. There is no use in trying to treat a certain bacteria infecting your mouth if the cause of the problem is in your stomach, for example. Many problems arising in the mouth have been linked to heart disease and unnecessary hormonal imbalances, yet dentists, time and time again, could not completely eliminate the problem in the mouth, because the root problem was not recognized.
We also believe that it is important to use biocompatible materials in our dentistry. The standard chemicals, medicines, tools, and substances used today are often detrimental in some way or another to good health and wholesomeness. We use the best materials available, meaning that they do not affect the promotion of good health, and they work harmoniously with the body’s natural strength and beauty.

Benefits of Bioesthetic Dentistry
(Taken from my website:)
“Bioesthetic dentistry takes the remedial treatment of each tooth to the comprehensive treatment of the entire body. Our diagnosing methodologies show us why you have broken down or worn teeth. Then we provide the means to regain the length, shape and appearance of your teeth, before they became worn or broken down.
“Based on the natural biologic form, Bioesthetic Dentistry works by arranging the teeth to function together with the alignment of the Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ). Recognized world-wide as the “non-surgical face lift”, bioesthetic dentistry affects the eyes, facial muscle posture and overall facial form. The final result is a naturally beautiful smile.
“If you have any of the common complaints listed below, Bioesthetic Dentistry may be what you need.
Migraines
Jaw popping
Worn or cracked teeth
Jaw pain
Unsightly smile
Limited opening of the mouth with restricted range of motion
Unable to chew food properly
Poor digestion
Gum disease with recession of the gums
Sensitive teeth
Tired-looking or -feeling jaw”

Periodontal Treatments with Ozone & Dental Lasers
Ozone and dental lasers are very useful for treating periodontal ailments in our office. Gingivitis, most commonly known as gum disease, is most often caused by improper oral hygiene. Gingivitis symptoms are usually red, swollen, or easily bleeding gums. If left untreated, gingivitis will lead to periodontitis, where the infection spreads to the root of the tooth, under the gumline, and begins to eat away everything that holds your tooth in place. This often leads to a painful process of tooth loss.
The combination of ozone and a dental laser in treating gum disease is phenomenal. The ozone continuously keeps the area sterile, while the dental laser precisely targets the infected area with minimal pain or damage to the surrounding tissues. Healing is accelerated, and health is restored.

Ozone Applications in Dentistry
Ozone, a crucial and important element in protecting and purifying the earth, is typically considered unhealthful, even poisonous, to the human body. This is partly true. Ozone will have a “dry-clean” effect on our lungs when inhaled and it does cause respiratory problems when its presence is more concentrated, seasonally or otherwise.
However, ozone is the second most second sterile substance in the world, and many practical uses have taken advantage of this fact. The thought of being treated somehow with ozone probably seems scary, but ozone is an amazing asset to the dental industry. A small machine that we have makes a small change on the molecular level of the ozone, creating a gas that is completely sterile – even magnetizing itself to and destroying bacteria and germs – but is 100% safe for the human body. It is hypoallergenic and allows the body’s natural immune system to take over and recover from the infection or diseased area. No more chemicals, no more high-maintenance processes of keeping your mouth’s “construction area” clean, and no more worries!

CEREC One-Visit Holistic Dentistry
CEREC is a state-of-the-art system that allows full restorations of one or more teeth to be made in a single visit to the dentist’s office. Whether it is a crown, inlay, onlay, filling, or veneer, the CAD/CAM technology the CEREC unit uses will design and produce a perfect restoration of the damaged tooth. The replacement material looks like, feels like, and is strong as a real tooth; biocompatibility and aesthetics are well-maintained; and further damage to the tooth is eliminated.
Do you have a need for a crown, or have large cavities? Have you had trouble with previous “restorations”? Do they look awful or keep on falling apart? Look into CEREC dentistry. There’s no better option!

TMJ Symptoms
The holidays are here, and that means lots of goodies are being baked, which means those goodies are being eaten, which means there is lots of chewing going on. Do you have any problems with chewing, biting, or opening/closing your mouth? Are you suffering any neck pain, jaw pain, or unexplained headaches? What about teeth grinding, an uneven bite, or painful chewing? Is your mouth crooked? Do you hear popping or snapping noises when opening or closing your mouth?
Whether your symptoms are subtle or debilitating, pay attention to them and talk to a TMJ specialist to see if anything can be done to fix them. My office is in Westchester, near LAX in the Santa Monica area. If you live anywhere near here, by all means, set up an appointment and we will help you. TMJ problems should never be left untreated; we need our mouths to eat, and therefore live, right? If our mouths are not functioning properly, it can be detrimental to the rest of our good health.
